Out of town boys join 2 3 pm swimming, Bible school swimmers 2 4 pm schedule, Friday hikes when weather allows, and a Lake Darling Youth Center camp August 2 8 costing 13 with blanks at the Y. Memberships set at 5 per year for grade and junior high boys with a special 3 months for 2. Mixed swim starts June 25 Thursdays 6 11 am.

The United Nations delegation was all American as South Korean representatives again boycotted the meetings amid threats to ignore any ceasefire. The Allies pressed toward final armistice details despite Seoul’s opposition.

The USDA has bought an average of two million pounds of butter daily under the dairy price support program for two weeks. Purchases peak in production season and total about 220 million pounds since December, worth over 143 million dollars at 65 cents a pound. Daily buys total roughly 1.38 million dollars, while 75 million pounds go to school lunch programs and charities.
Four men faced justice court on OMVI and related charges in Washington County. Paul G. Yeggy 43 Riverside was jailed on OMVI with a 350 dollar bond. Marvin Glen Biggerstaff 35 Iowa City awaits arraignment on OMVI. Alva Edward Hunter 40 Iowa City fined 50 dollars for intoxication on a public highway. Vernon L. Emanuel Bloch, attorney for Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, filed notice seeking a new trial based on alleged perjury by David Greenglass the key witness. Hope expressed today that negotiations in Des Moines may bring bricklayers back to their jobs on the high school addition by early next week. Bricklayers quit this week over a dispute between their union and local builders while other workers stayed on. Only a few days remain to finish the walls.

Three United States Air Force B 47 jet bombers set a new West East trans Atlantic speed record at Fairford England. The first plane landed five hours 30 minutes after departing Limestone Field Maine, breaking a record by six minutes. A second B 47 logged five hours 20 minutes and the third five hours 22 minutes. The aircraft are with the 306th Bomb Wing arriving for a 90 day training period. The lead plane was commanded by Capt. Robert D. Carlstrom of Minneapolis.

Washington Lutheran bishop G Bromley Oxnam asked for a formal hearing before the House un American activities committee in response to Rep Donald L Jackson charge that he is connected with Red front groups. Oxnam also sent a wire to Chairman Harold H Velde respectfully requesting to answer the allegations. Jackson had challenged Oxnam after Methodist leaders urged an apology for calling Oxnam a man who serves God on Sunday and communist fronts the rest of the week.
H E Turner announces Gordon F. Cooper of Ottumwa will succeed Tom Gray as assistant to district manager of Iowa Southern Utilities. Cooper, born in Providence, served in the naval air corps, and worked at New England Telephone and Telegraph and American Screw before joining Iowa Southern in 1949. He is married with two children and will move his family when housing permits.
North Korean troops penetrated two Allied outposts on the Eastern Front as heavy fighting continued for the 11th day. South Korean forces and reinforcements clashed in hand to hand combat. Luke's Castle and Bloody Ridge were key focal points amid a rising Red offensive.

The session lasted 65 minutes. no statement was issued as sources cited White House readiness to reply to Syngman Rhee’s objections and counter-proposal. Rhee demanded foreign troop withdrawal a US Korea defense pact and unification rights. Korean ambassador You Chan Yang quoted Rhee as saying Korea would not sign an armistice leaving the country divided and would continue fighting if needed.
A $3 million fireworks plant explosion at ALCO Fireworks and Specialty rocked Houston. Four residents died, 83 injured, and a search for more victims continued as officers said no more bodies were likely. General Manager Kenneth Williams, 35, and employee G C Parrish, 43, escaped.
