Offer compromise to end fighting in Vietnam
The State Department said it would consider halting bombing of North Vietnam if the Communists show willingness to de-escalate with reciprocal actions about their military infiltra tion and regular personnel in South Vietnam. Four die on Iowa roads in Friday crashes
United Press International reports four deaths on Iowa roads over the weekend. A Cedar Rapids teen, Larry Merkel 17, died after his motorcycle collided with a semi tractor trailer driven by Kenneth Duncan of Thomaston Georgia. Two year old Kevin Essex, son of Mr and Mrs Sherwood Essex, was struck by a car on US 61 near his farm home, driver Leroy Fuhlman 42 of rural Muscatine. Robert Pittman 25 of North Cedar died in Cedar Falls hospital from injuries in a Memorial Day pickup collision. Ralph Roberts about 70 of Pleasant Plain died in a two car crash on Iowa 1 near Brighton. Ruby Giberson drove, Maxie Lancaster 41 of Memphis Missouri, Elaine Middleton 38 of Downing Missouri, injured passengers.

Meeting at Highland on county planning program
The second information meeting for the Washington County Planning Program will be held at the Highland Community School on Highway 218 south of Riverside on June 7 at 7 30 p m. Residents of Highland Jackson and Iowa Townships are primary but others may attend. County Zoning Commission Board of Supervisors and Powers and Associates will outline work done recommendations and adoption procedures. Copies of preliminary reports will be on display and available by contacting officials. Future meetings are June 13 Crawfordsville June 20 Rubio and June 22 Mid Prairie High Wellman.

Collision at Brighton claims Salina man life
Ralph Roberts Sr. of Salina Iowa died after a two car crash at the foot of a hill on highway one near Brighton Friday around 6 40 p m. Ruby Giberson of Salina drove the car carrying Roberts who is also the house keeper for Giberson. Two women were injured including Aline Middleton of Downing Missouri and the Middleton's injuries include hip head and neck injuries and cuts from flying glass. Maxie Lancaster of Memphis Missouri escaped serious injury. Both injured were taken to Washington County Hospital. Roberts died minutes after being found. An autopsy was requested at Iowa City likely heart attack.
