Sugar rationing hits 899 canning applications
The county rationing board reported 899 applications for extra sugar for canning have been received and acted on since the program began. Certificates were issued at application time. Additional certificates were available at Riverside, Brighton, Wellman, Kalona, and Crawfordsville through board agents. The courthouse office will stay open tonight and Friday from 7 to 9 30 to serve more applicants.

Brother of Harry Whittaker Dies in Muscatine
Grant Whittaker 74 of Muscatine a brother of Harry Whittaker Washington died suddenly at home after months of illness. Formerly in Washington the family moved 40 years ago to Muscatine where he ran a community sales pavilion. Survived by wife Nellie Nichols a son George and his brother here. Funeral and burial planned in Muscatine. Mr and Mrs Harry Whittaker traveled to Muscatine today.

Carl L. Bartlett sues John Higgins for 1805.08 in damages from a September 13 1941 rear collision at Bath corner east of Ainsworth. Bartlett says Higgins’ car struck his halted vehicle on highway 218 at junction with road 92 east of Ainsworth. Bartlett’s car burned in the fire.
