Frances Fourt, confined by tuberculosis in University Hospital Iowa City, completed 15 months of correspondence study and graduated with highest distinction from State University. She earned Phi Beta Kappa membership among her academic honors.

Louis Block a Davenport attorney and leading authority on Masonic work in the region died after a heart ailment. His grandson George Block remained in serious condition in a Davenport hospital after being accidentally shot by a friend, and was reported as holding his own while Mr. Block had not been informed of the grandson’s condition.
MUSCATINE Dr G A Sywassink, an avid golfer, built a portable radio system on a wheelbarrow chassis to hear baseball broadcasts while on the course. The device carries two casters and a full powered video setup for on course listening.
The Fort Madison midget school band of 23 young musicians averaging 11 years, directed by Carl Nelson, left Fort Madison for a tour of Iowa towns.
Thirty five applicants began three day examinations to practice osteopathy in Iowa. Test takers hailed from Kirksville Missouri and Kansas City Missouri as well as Des Moines.
SIOUX CITY James W Fay of Eumimetsburg attorney for Pat Griffin and Elmer Brewer announced he had lost his latest effort to save the two Iowans from hanging Wednesday morning at Fort Madison penitentiary. Judge Charles A Dewey refused his plea.
EB A Landers, secretary of the Polk County Bankers Association, told the Iowa Bankers Association, meeting in Des Moines, that enforced federal reserve membership for all state banks could force the elimination of many banks unless organized opposition blocks the bill.

A vehicle collision near the First National Bank caused injuries when a second car struck a double parked vehicle at the curb. Witnesses report delayed traffic and police attended the scene to document the accident.
The city council increased annual beer license fees to 200 dollars and enacted a broad ordinance aligning with state beer laws. Mrs. Will Sickles received a telegram announcing the death of John Brest who lived at the Sickles home while employed in Washington. Known as Frenchy, he worked for the Milwaukee at the signal tower. He left Washington five years ago and resided with his sister Mrs. Mary Musante in Northampton Massachusetts. Funeral set for Thursday there.
High waters in southern Iowa receded as fair weather spread. The Des Moines River rose a foot at Ottumwa and stayed above flood stage in the south while dropping at Des Moines. other risen streams also fell. Rain was light statewide with temps from 76 to 45 degrees at Clarinda.
Crowds gathered as Tucker and Anderson exhibited a 1904 one cylinder Cadillac in front of their new used car lot near the city hall. The antique car, driven by a rear mounted one cylinder engine, is a historic Iowa vehicle and a valued keepsake likely to gain importance with time.

She has four years of commercial work including two years of shorthand and typing. Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm. arrangements can be made in person or by telephone at 479 black. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carleton Haven.
London report that fourteen children were killed, six instantly, by the blast of a World War shell found on a former battlefield near Vilna. The casualty toll came from an Exchange Telegraph dispatch out of Warsaw.
In Los Angeles a weary Mr. Roper secretary of commerce visited a homeowner after a Sunday blaze. The man recounted the brief meeting with Roosevelt era officials and observed that parts of the NRA might gain support as big business suffers under old dog eat dog practices.

Private services will honor Maida McFarland Ogden at 2 30 p m at her sister’s home in Washington. Rev Vernon H Carter to officiate with Elm Grove cemetery interment. Ogden, born May 24 1870 in Taylor county Iowa, died June 3 1935 in Iowa City after a career as a drugless physician and chiropractor. She leaves husband J B Ogden of Chicago, siblings J R McFarland Mra A H Easley Mra R H Malin Mra Newton Cloughlin and many relatives.

Any compromise would force veterans to make a serious sacrifice. The Patman plan for 2 billion dollars in currency expansion to fund immediate payment of adjusted compensation certificates will be re introduced when Congress reconvenes in January.
Archie M Euwer and his family relocate from Nevada Missouri to 314 East Second Street Washington. He works as an agent for Monarch Life Insurance selling life health and accident policies. He is the grandson of Civil War veteran A N Euwer, a longtime Washington resident, returning to his hometown.
