Stolen Property Recovered As Man Arrested On Larceny Counts
A joint city county raid led to the recovery of 5000 in stolen goods and three larceny counts against Timothy John Brashaw 21 of 429 South Third Ave Washington. Brashaw jailed on 2500 bond per count after radio stolen from Don Dreit March 6 was found at his home and seized along with CB gear a camera dishwasher kitchen cabinets tires TV antenna rotors and other items. A county attorney report will follow.

Local drivers license tests move to Armory site
The Iowa National Guard Armory will host local driver testing starting Wednesday, June 9, after city officials ordered a new location. The Armory classroom near Highway 1 and West Madison will host renewals 10:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. with driving tests 10 to 11, motorcycle tests 3 to 4, and written tests 10 to 3:30.

Bicentennial Fun Festival Planned in Keota
Keota Community Club and Jaycee members plan a Bicentennial Fun Festival July 16 and 17 featuring a parade on July 17 at noon and an official Iowa cow chip throwing contest at 1 p.m. The winner earns a trip to the national contest in Beaver Oklahoma next year. Additional events include greased pig and greased pole contests water fights bicycle races a 50s dance and barbecued pork sandwiches. A Keota park carnival and an exhibit area for merchants clubs and craft groups will accompany the events.

Davenport Iowa UPI Scott County District Court Judge Lowell Phelps ruled 65-foot double-bottom trucks cannot be legal in Iowa until the legislature acts on three transportation issues. The 23 page decision says all parts of an Iowa DOT Commission rule must be in place, including snow tire ban approval and roadway classification, before the trucks can operate.

Youth injured in car bicycle collision in Washington
A 13 year old Washington youth Josep L Johnson was treated and released from Washington County Hospital after a bicycle collision with Rocky Lee Scott 24 of Washington at 10 25 am near Sunset Park. Police found no charges. A second accident at East 15th and Riverside Road involved Penny Jo Ckle 17 and Everett R Burham 81 with $600 damage and Burham charged with failure to yield.

Seven youths held for Stewart School break-in
Police arrested seven elementary and junior high age youths Wednesday in Washington in connection with a weekend break-in at Stewart School. Chief Ken Bauer said the juveniles admitted theft of small items and some were recovered. They were turned over to their parents. the break-in was first discovered Tuesday morning. All suspects were current or former Stewart students.

Ground breaking ceremonies completed for Washingtons new 1.09 million Army Reserve building at North Marion center. VIPs included Col John S. Naughton Lt Col Daryl Hemken Mayor Harold Johnson and Bill Perdock who helped spark the project. The 109 by 117 foot facility will include assembly drill hall rifle range kitchen and a rear 6 bay maintenance shop. Most of the facility will be open to community use when not in Reserve use. The ceremony highlighted local economic impact and plans to vacate the current maintenance shop at East Second and North Second.
