An eight year old McGregor boy, Jimmy Jensen, son of Howard Jensen, grabbed a dynamite cap while walking to a pasture. He hammer struck the cap, causing a blast that peppered his legs and arms but left him with no serious injuries. Authorities note the incident in a local Iowa column.

The Washington high school band under Maurice Brayton performed its second annual lawn concert on the east lawn of the school last evening. The program, with a few extra marches, featured Light Cavalry Overture by Von Suppe as the crowd’s favorite, though the entire evening was well received.
Charlie Davis and 40 business men distributed seats and free refreshments as two extra morning shows turned into four. The Man in Blue drew packed audiences despite peak farm season with corn plowing. Between 1:30 and 2:30 the city heard performances by the high school band directed by Maurice Brayton.

Members of the 1937 Washington high school and junior college graduating classes met at the Methodist church to rehearse for the evening commencement. Dr. D D Welch of Dubuque University will deliver the address. Class president Samuel Wittmer missed the rehearsal due to illness but hopes to attend. Ruth Negus planned to attend a brother's wedding but stayed for graduation activities.
Secretary Leigh Soule of the Y announced the summer schedule for the swimming pool with classes for boys starting Saturday. Dr BF W Eastwood, Gene Trask, and the Y examiner direct the season. Women and girls may swim on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Fred Blick, born and raised in Washington, will be awarded the Doctor of Divinity degree at Monmouth College next Tuesday morning during the commencement. He will preach at Second United Presbyterian Church near the campus and attend the alumni banquet with wife Rhuth Pierce Blick, a Monmouth graduate.
