Davenport column reports 38 month old Dennis Felgenhauer son of Otto and Mrs Felgenhauer died from suffocation when a rubber blanket slipped over his face in his crib. Scott County coroner W F Shelley announced the findings.
Marshall Town police Patrolman Laverne Winters married Misa Kathryn Block, niece of Newton washing machine magnate Fred L. Maytag. Block was left $1,006 a year for life in Maytag's will, with Chief Harold Block serving as best man.
Fourteen high school recipients earned awards for excellence in bhoter character scholarship bravery and leadership Margaret Cupp 18 and George Ruehton Jr received gq citations four bronze medals and engraved plaques at the high school auditorium
Following complaints about stray dogs biting children and gar data in recent weeks the Maquoketa council orders city dog license tags. The ordinance requiring dog owners to acquire a city license will be enforced, says Mayor W J Pendray. The ordinance heretofore has been ignored.
On the first day of June the district court issued two marriage licenses to Walter M. Klarr of Mesa City and Beth R. Cennen of North Springs and to George Schediderker of Nashua and Ada Holtz of Floyd. Judge T. A. Beardmore granted a divorce to Charlotte Esther Murphy from Robert A. Murphy, who were married at Clear Lake in May 1944.

At the Iowa school for the blind in Vinton laborers on a 72,000 girl dormitory project struck for higher pay. Fourteen relief-roll workers, supervised by T. M. Kelly, demanded a raise from 49 to 65 cents an hour beyond the PWA minimum, delaying construction.
Edward True 8, of Buffalo, is jailed on a charge of firing a shotgun at a crowd at a yard party near Buffalo after being rebuffed while attempting to crash the event. He allegedly returned home, retrieved an automatic shotgun, and fired into the group.
The Chamber of Commerce plans to feed up to 8000 visitors with free hot dogs and coffee in Central Park tomorrow noon. Charles W. Davis, chair of the serving committee, says 35 assistants will manage the crowd and supplies include extra buns, with two free movie showings at the State theater and a Washington High School band performance in the afternoon. Weather is forecast generally fair with mild temperature.
About 2 863 Washington county homeowners filed homestead tax refund applications before the deadline. Miss Ethel Grecan county auditor says filings cover 1936 and 1937 taxes payable 1937 and 1938. Applications go to the county board for final approval. 788 came from the town of Washington. The board has until August 10 to review.
The first of many June wedding licenses issued yesterday, the first day of the month, went to Dorsey Mishier of Sturges Michigan and Gwendolyn Brown of Wellman for a marriage to take place.
Ralph Pratt’s sidewalk well near the State theater on South Second avenue began flowing last night at 53 degrees, delivering about 780 gallons per minute. The eight inch casing well reached 173 feet and will supply cooling water for theater air conditioning with a 24 hour test planned.

Amelia Earhart Putnam completed the second leg of her world flight, landing at Carapito Venezuela from San Juan Porto Rico, and preparing to depart for Paramaribo Dutch Guinea and Natal Brazil. She earlier left San Juan at 6 40 am and arrived in Venezuela, continuing toward Africa via Natal.
Miss Ruth Stewart will teach stringed instruments at the Summer Music School in the high school building. The program runs June 14 to August 9 with daily sessions including violin cello viola and string orchestra duties across Monday to Friday slots.

The Leon Beatty post American Legion announced at the June meeting that the annual post picnic will be July 20 at Sunset Park. Delegates to the state convention will be chosen at the event. The picnic is a special meeting and marks an earlier date due to the August state convention.
