Captain Charles A Lindbergh postponed his English channel crossing awaiting favorable weather. The Memphis light cruiser will depart Cherbourg and, weather permitting, reach Washington by Saturday June 11. He was awarded Spain's Plus Ultra Gold Medal for the Atlantic flight. An exchange dispatch from Berlin reports three people killed and 25 injured as a cyclone wrecks 200 houses in Lingen Germany. Crops and livestock also suffer extensive damage.

Road bonds pass in Woodbury County election

Voters approved a 700000 dollar road bond issue for Woodbury county to finance 1927 highway improvements. Early returns: 2001 yes to 548 no with rural precincts pending. Planned work includes paving and bridging on routes 141 140 and 30 from Moville to the Plymouth county line and between Oto and Smithland.

Mrs. James Redd Dies After Illness in Washington

Mrs. James Redd died at her home this morning after an eight month illness of tuberculosis. Funeral services are set for Friday at two at the A M E church with Rev. P A Jackson officiating. Eliza Jane Moore born December 9 1842 in La Grange Tenn arrived in Washington in 1865 and married James Redd in 1886. She leaves a husband a brother and sister and two deceased daughters Marie and Elizabeth. She was active in the A M E church and federation of colored women’s clubs.

Twenty Die in Dutch Cyclone Hits Gelderland Province

A cyclone swept Gelderland last night killing twenty people and injuring about two hundred. Neede and Groenlo suffered the worst damage as rescue teams and officials assess the devastation. Mrs. M. P. Miller has returned from Chicago after winter with relatives.

Flood Control Conference Urges Federal Action

Chicago June 2 The great flood control conference called by Mayor William Hale Thompson opened with a push to mold public opinion for government led flood control. Senator Pat Harrison urged immediate federal action while noting engineers will assess the Mississippi watershed for needed legislation. Delegates from 27 Mississippi basin states attended with U S senators congressmen and civic leaders present.

Severe cloudburst in the Rig Sandy Valley southeastern Kentucky caused nine deaths and major property damage. Rain swollen streams washed out hovels and railroad tracks. waters rose to the highest level in forty years leaving extensive destruction in Paintsville area.

Road Improvement Vote Planned After Ainsworth Meeting
