Two Brothers Die in Shed Explosion North of Des Moines
An explosion and fire in a small shed killed two young brothers, David Greif aged 2 and Steven Eugene Greif aged 4, sons of Mr and Mrs Dale Greif, while their mother suffered shock and was hospitalized. Polk County Detective Paul Womank cited a lethal mix of children with matches and gasoline as the cause, with the victims found close together in the shed’s northeast corner.

Ornduff Shows Champion Market Beef At County Fair

The 1975 Washington County 4 H and FFA Fair ends tonight with a demolition derby in the grandstand area, an open class hog show and pig derby in the show barn, and a teen dance in the armory. Parade of Champions and 4 H Awards were held yesterday. market beef and lambs were auctioned this morning and exhibits are being released this afternoon. Admission to the grounds plus derby is $1, teen dance tickets are $2 and start at 9 PM.

Iowa Targets Unemployed Fraud as Benefits Case Rise
Iowa Employment Security Commission has stepped up probes into illegal unemployment compensation. In six months this year 31 cases were sent to county attorneys for prosecution, compared with three in all of 1974. Convictions reached 19 of 31, two cases were dropped due to restitution, and ten are pending. A Davenport man pleaded guilty to collecting benefits from Iowa and Illinois simultaneously.

Washington County Diabetic Screening Attracts 369 Participants
Three hundred sixty nine residents joined a county wide screening to identify high risk candidates for diabetes.
