Iowa June Employment Gains Show Broad Pickup
Iowa non farm employment rose for the fourth straight month in June as the Iowa Labor Review cites a 0.7 percent gain. Workforce reached 635,600 with key boosts in food processing about 1,500 more workers, non electrical machinery, and washing machine production. Construction added 2,700 due to strike ripples while total unemployment benefits fell below one million dollars for the first time in 1958. Average earnings rose to 2.16 per hour and weekly pay averaged 85.77 dollars.

Body of Iowan Found In Barn Near Corning
Jay Loghry 58 a National Farmers Organization organizer was found Wednesday in a barn near Corning Iowa after a self inflicted gunshot. Authorities say the shooting followed an argument with a nursing home employee. Loghry had been missing for a day and his car was found in a ditch near the Harold Hite farm. He was treated for a flesh wound and released to his son Doyle.
