Market Basket Cost Continues to Rise
The Agriculture Department reports the market basket cost for farm foods in April to June rose 8 percent year over year. Farmers captured about 60 percent of the increase while marketing firms took 40 percent as costs like wages and freight climbed. A Friday night fire in Ladora Iowa damaged the La dora Lumber and Fuel Co sparking a blaze that cost about 500000. Lightning struck near the lumber shed triggering the blaze as seven communities fought through the night to save the main business area. The stock and equipment valued at 300000 were destroyed along with a railroad box car. a second boxcar was moved to safety and money in a safe was saved.
