Queen Mary saved for Long Beach museum bid
The Queen Mary, once set for scrapping, was sold for 3.4 million dollars to the city of Long Beach California to become a premier tourist attraction. Backed by Governor Reagan, the plan is to preserve much of the liner's character by using it as a maritime museum and exhibit ship.

Bank robbers caught near Valmeyer
Two bandits armed with a shotgun robbed Farmers State Bank of about $6,000 then were captured two miles north of Valmeyer, Ill. Deputies and Illinois state police arrested Larry Wayne Duffell, 18, Cahokia, and Marion Lee Faust, 24, St. Louis, after a chase through a cornfield. All money recovered and suspects jailed in Waterloo.
