Pioneer Samuel Jones Celebrates Ninety Years of Life
The Lloyd Jones home near Brighton hosted relatives for a birthday gathering honoring Samuel Jones on July 21. Born in 1836, he emigrated from Washington County Pennsylvania in 1856, lived in Illinois a year, then Iowa’s Clay Township where he and family settled. Now active at 90, he recalls pioneer farm work with oxen, walks a mile to kin, and recently rode a pony. Grandchildren served a family dinner, with gladioli centerpieces and ice cream prepared by Irene and Myra Jones, while other relatives and friends joined the celebration.
