Plan Filibuster On Civil Rights
Washington July 9 26. A Republican leader and a Southern Democrat agreed little chance Congress will pass civil rights legislation in the special session. Both predict at least one of President Truman's civil rights bills will be brought up in the Senate and a resulting filibuster may block action on anti inflation housing and other requests. The two parties planned separate hearings and discuss the issue. Sen Allen J Ellender said he doubts any Negro rights bills will pass this summer session. He added he is ready for a filibuster with an hour long speech and others can do as well.
