Veterans Adviser to Be Here Thursday for GI Insurance Reinstatement
James K. Lafferty, officer in charge, announced the VA Office in Iowa City will assist veterans to reinstate lapsed GI life insurance before the July 1 deadline without a medical exam. Reinstatement applies to policies from $1,000 to $10,000 with two monthly premiums due. A later August 1 cutoff requires a medical exam if lapsed three months or more. Lafferty will also visit Washington City Hall on July 29, 1948, from 9:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Captured Killer Berates Police in Mercer County
Robert Murt Daniels aged 24, called killer who aided a partner to shoot six people, surrendered after a roadblock near Van Wert. John C. West, 22, was fatally shot by police during the exchange. Sheriff H. M. Putnam and deputy investigated today for the owner of a 1946 black Buick four door sedan found abandoned in the Highland Center school yard six miles north of Ainsworth on highway 218.
