Eight more die on Iowa's roads

Eight persons were killed in Iowa traffic accidents over the weekend, boosting the 1966 toll to 408. Victims include Barbara Schuch, 18, of Central City, in a Marion three car crash. Levi Rowlett, 18, and Lois Rowlett, 12, of Keokuk in a Donnellson crash. Barbara Jasperson, 16, near Wilton Junction after being struck on a bicycle. Morse Revises Airline Strike Bill for 6-Month Back-To-Work

Washington County Fair Opens With Exhibits In Place

Washington County fair grounds buzzed with 4H and FFA members placing exhibits as judging begins. Crowds gather for four days of carnival entertainment and events including a beauty pageant, home talent show, and livestock judging from Tuesday through Thursday. Des Moines Sewage Protest Chills Hopes of State Aid

Harold E Hughes said little could be done about the lack of sewage facilities in Des Moines southeast side. Demonstrators, led by college students, rallied at the Capitol, reading a letter to Hughes and using statehouse restrooms. A spokesman said another march would occur later that day. Hughes left open the possibility of a meeting if demanded, noting his schedule could block unappointed visitors.

Two youths injured as car demolished in Highway 92 crash

Edward J. Mattes, 20, and passenger Jim Kauffman, 19, suffered multiple lacera tions and bruises when their high speed eastbound car left Hwy 92, veered 560 feet, and wrecked against a bill board. Both were hospitalized. Vehicle owned by David Sorrell. Charges pending after investigation.
