Waterloo plane crash kills three residents near farm
A single engine Cessna 172 crashed in a pasture two miles northwest of Waterloo injuring Jerry, sole survivor, as three locals Lester C. Young 39, Charles W. Bunting 41, and his son James 14 died. Jerry was hospitalized in Des Moines then Waterloo. Bunting rented the land from Gerald King who operated the farm. The crash occurred about 9:30 am amid overcast skies. FAA and CAB investigated.

Dozer operator injured in Washington County accident
Dozer operator Robert Williams of Indianola was badly hurt when the bulldozer he was driving south of Washington tipped over crushing his leg. Taken to Washington County Hospital and then to Iowa City by ambulance, his exact injuries were not yet known. Williams, with Construction Company, was working on Coppock road near the Washington sanitary landfill south of the old Red Brick schoolhouse. He and his wife had been living in a Ramseyer Trailer Court trailer while he worked in the area.
