European corn borer spreads to most Iowa counties

Pvt Esther I Waggoner 20 of the WAC daughter of Mr and Mrs William Waggoner of Sutherland suffered a shin wound at Hartley Iowa after being absent without leave from Fort Des Moines. An ambulance took her to the post hospital. circumstances of the shooting were not learned. Hartley lies 15 miles north of Sutherland in northwest Iowa.

Major Holladay Awarded Bronze Star for Courage in Bougainville
Major William T. Holladay of the U S Army medical corps in the south Pacific received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service at Bougainville on March 24 1944. Unusual Death of Wellman Creamery Driver Orville Morrison
Orville Morrison 37, creamery truck driver for the Wellman cooperative creamery, died in a peculiar accident when the truck rolled downhill while he worked under it. The universal joint near the rear axle tightened his shirt and suspenders, strangling him as brakes failed. Dr. W. S. Kyle ruled death by strangulation. Sheriff H. M. Putnam and Dr. Kyle called to the scene. Funeral plans are indefinite. Morrison’s sister is Mrs. Holladay.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at the Wellman Methodist church conducted by Rev. R. W. Pinnell. Burial will follow in Wellman cemetery. He is survived by his wife two daughters Mary Ann and Sherry six brothers and three sisters all living outside Wellman. The Morrison family had resided in Wellman for several years.
