William Palmer Injured in 75 Foot Elevator Fall
William Palmer an employee at the Farmers elevator on North Lawa avenue was seriously injured this morning after a rope broke letting a lift platform drop about 75 feet. He was taken by ambulance to Washington county hospital where X rays showed a badly broken ankle crushed bones and a pelvis fracture. Palmer had worked at the elevator for two and a half years and was attempting to ascend when the rope failed. He also burned a hand while trying to grasp the rope.

Columbus Junction reports the death of Andrew Hooker Gamble 65 at 8:39 this morning from a stroke of paralysis suffered a month earlier. Born December 1, 1863, he was a farmer and paper hanger who also served as a rural mail route substitute. He leaves three sisters and two brothers including Ed Gamble. Funeral services are expected Thursday at the Gamble homestead with burial in Columbus City cemetery.
