The Golden Eagle market hog show at Wright County Fairgrounds Eagle Grove Iowa on August 30 offers 1600 dollars in prize money and 300 dollars in premiums for the grand champion. Dean Moser and Tommy Mills report premiums for top fifteen hogs in three weight classes and 30 carcass show placings with a 150 dollar championship. Entries are limited to 300 head weighing 200 to 240 pounds with light middle and heavy classes. Carcasses judged at Farmland Foods Denison with strict length and fat/loin criteria. Sponsors include Boone Valley Farmland Foods and Farmland Industries. An afternoon Junior Judging precedes the 530 p.m. Golden Eagle Quality market hog judging. All animals slaughtered at the Denison plant. The event runs between Iowa State Fair and Austin Minnesota barrow shows.
