Schmitt Named Head of War Food Volunteers Division

U. S. Submarine Triton Lost During Patrol Duty
The 1475 ton submarine Triton, credited with at least 11 Japanese warships and merchant vessels since Pearl Harbor, was lost while on patrol. Commanded by Lieutenant Commander George MacKenzie of Brooklyn, New York, it was built in 1940 and carried a crew of about 69. It marks the tenth U. S. submarine lost in the war.

Funeral services for Mrs. W. C. Mayhew who died this week at her daughter’s Eagle Rock home Calif will be Saturday at 4 pm at Sherman’s Funeral Home with Rev George Kerr of the United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Him Grove cemetery. Son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Alexander left Eagle Rock with the body and arrive Saturday morning. Son Rodney Mayhew will come from Frankfort Pa for the funeral.
