Washington County Grand Jury to Meet at Court House

The seven member Washington County grand jury will convene at 9 a.m. Monday in the court house. County Attorney Richard Bordwell announced the called meeting for July 21. Workmen will repaint parking lines and crosswalk borders in Washington starting at midnight Monday. Motorists should remove cars from the square Sunday night to speed the painting. Vathy Lloyd of Washington set a new women’s course record at the Washington Golf and Country Club with a 34, three under men’s par, surpassing past records for the era.

Good neighbor policy under Iowa Guard membership probe

Des Moines In a national guard ethics review Gov. Ray will examine a free Hyperion Field Club membership for top Iowa Guard officers. Maj. Gen. May says about seven or eight officers receive these free memberships valued at 1,400 dollars initiation and 56 dollars monthly. A landscaping project on Camp Dodge property and a potential private tennis court lease are noted while a state ethics code is being drafted.

Israeli Proposals Ready for Egypt in Peace Talks

Israeli Ambassador Simcha Dinitz said new Israeli proposals for an interim Mideast peace agreement would be forwarded to Egypt soon. He noted progress while urging restraint and said the ideas might reach Egyptian President Anwar Sadat via U.S. envoy Hermann Eilts.

Art Duensing Named as Super Senior Citizen

Arthur Duensing, 77, a retired Washington area farmer, was named Super Senior Citizen for Washington County by Area X Agency on Aging. Postal Service Faces Possible Strike Over Contract
