Late lamb marketing tips for Fallsale in Iowa

County Extension Associate Merritt Canady cites five keys from Tom Wickersham of Iowa State University: summer shade, fortified balanced rations, fresh water and minerals, parasite control, and weight watching. Separate lambs from ewes and target 100 to 105 pounds live weight. Begin with 12 percent protein in a 35/65 grain to roughage mix, then adjust to 65/35 in 2–3 weeks. Finish by November 20 and market as soon as lambs reach choice grade to avoid discounts.
