New fast food ice cream restaurant planned for downtown
George Tripp reports a self serve fast food and ice cream shop to open by September at South Second and West Jefferson. The 4 to 6 employee unit will offer year round service from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. with 36 to 40 interior seats and 30 parking spaces. It will be the first of its kind in the state and priced to compete with large chains.

Rubio farmer loses hand in combine accident
John McClurg Ruby a 40 year old farmer living east of Rubio suffered a farm accident Wednesday when his right hand and arm were caught in a combine cylinder while harvesting oats on the Ray Maorer farm. Workmen dismantled the machine for two hours before he was taken to Ottumwa Hospital where the hand was amputated above the wrist. Dr. Wolf of Richland attended the scene.
