Four Iowans drown in weekend boating incidents
Four Iowans died over the weekend with three drowning in adjacent states. Eddy and Alfred Christianson of Leland were pulled under on Lake Elysian Minnesota as their overloaded boat sank after waves swamped it. Minnesota witnesses Norman Braadland and Arnold Braadland reported the tragedy as they clung to the boat. Reverend James Klosterman of Cresco drowned at the Mississippi wing dam near East Dubuque Illinois while fellow priest Paul Weis observed the current. In Council Bluffs, nine year old Robert Ore drowned at Big Lake while cycling companion Lyle Brockman found his clothing and called for help. Ore’s death followed a separate drowning incident nearby.

The caravan paused at the R E Arthur home Saturday afternoon, drawing attention from locals. One member was John O Loughlin, cousin of Mrs Arthur, formerly of Kalona.

Lost light plane search ends with little hope for survivors
Authorities near abandon hope for the two San Francisco couples believed aboard a Navion missing since Friday on a Milwaukee to Des Moines flight. Nearly 100 planes, including Air Force, Navy and Civil Air Patrol units from Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota, scoured the Midwest as Truax Field crews resumed the hunt at dawn. The missing pilots were Lester W. Weber 43 and his wife and brother and his wife, visiting parents in West Allis.
