Girl amputates her father's arm with pocket knife
At Palmer Lake Colorado a 16 year old girl Beverly Higginson amputated her father Russell Higginson's arm after it was caught in a hay baler. She bound the wound and drove him to a Colorado Springs hospital where he remained in good condition. A nurse later helped ease his pain with morphine. The accident happened Thursday on a farm three miles north of Palmer Lake.

Sheriffs Group Seeks County Road Patrol Deputies
The Iowa State Sheriffs Assn urges appointing one or more deputy sheriff county road patrolmen in every county to enforce traffic laws on county roads and opposes transferring patrol duties to other agencies. U S Farm Experts Start Russian Tour
A five man group of American agricultural experts left for Moscow to study methods during a 54 day tour. Sponsored by the Agriculture Department the team is led by Dr. Herman A. Rodenhiser and aims to observe Russian agricultural research stations and travel about 6000 miles in the Soviet Union under the exchange agreement. Black man confesses to killing two police officers
In Baton Rouge a Black man armed with two .38 pistols was arrested and confessed to fatally injuring two police officers at Mandeville. He took a car, abandoned it in Sorrento, then fled on foot toward Baton Rouge. Officers said one officer perhaps died after an exchange of gunfire. The suspect admitted involvement and was taken to Baton Rouge General Hospital.

Hospital Supervisor Gets Ambulance Ride
Harris Jones supervisor of the Washington County Hospital was injured Thursday when a scaffolding collapsed while he and Tom Duncan and Harold Mangold were placing shingles on a concession stand roof at the Washington County fairgrounds. Jones was taken to the hospital and x rays showed no serious injury.

Word reached the Westens on Friday of Blythe Hubbard's death in an auto accident near his Azusa California home. He was the husband of former Florence Westen and son-in-law of Mr and Mrs George Westen. Brothers in law include Mrs Joe West and Wilbur Westen of Washington. Another brother in law John Westen lives in Fairfield. George Westen, Wilbur, and John traveled from Washington to California for the funeral, while Mrs Joe West, vacationing in Chicago, left to join her family.

Four Men Hurt in Decorah Furnace Room Blast
Four men were reported in serious condition after a furnace room explosion at a tire shop in Decorah Iowa on Friday afternoon. Injured were Herbert Barlow 46 Isadore Barlow 43 John McFadyen 45 and Clarence Reed 39 of Cedar Falls. McFadyen and Reed were tire repairmen. The blast originated near the oil furnace with the cause under investigation. Fire caused only minor damage.
