Dr. Charles Friley Dies at Ames Former ISU President
Dr. Charles Friley 71 longtime Iowa State College president emeritus died at his Ames home after a two year illness. He led ISU from 1936 to 1953 overseeing enrollment growth from 5 000 to 10 000 and new campus buildings. Born August 27 1887 in Ruston Louisiana he earned a law degree in 1929 and joined ISU as dean in 1932 later becoming vice president and president.
