A local butcher offers 1000 lbs of smoked meats weekly with quick sales and small profits. The shop carries fresh and salt fish including mackerel salmon and white fish. Also available are spring chickens and a full line of pickles and pickled meats. Bologna cooked ham and cooked corned beef are on hand for lunch.
The firm of Schneider Bros. made a voluntary assignment with O. E. Brown as assignee and Attorney Butterfield as their representative. Liabilities are about 3500 with assets projected at 5000 or more, and creditors are expected to receive dollar for dollar. The article lists major creditors including First National Bank and Washington National Bank among others.
C S Miller presented a novel line of paper made dresses and rugs that resemble fabric in appearance and feel. Mrs John Warener of Indian Orchard Mass displayed them, noting a local factory and Prince John Wannawaker purchasing the output. A 7 30 evening party hosted by Mrs R T McCall at East Washington Creei streets featured Dessie and Robert Gilkie and Rachael Allen guests with about twenty young attendees.
The Iowa Telephone Company advances improvements with more work than can be finished this year. New instruments installed at Dublin Post Master Ford’s business and W. W. Wells residence, plus a general store link at Ferguson Lewis in West Chester. A metallic circuit will follow to connect with Muscatine and reach Keokuk with a stop at Burlington.
The Old Boys reunion for the Thirtieth regiment gathers in Mediapolis on August 25 26. Comrades urged to attend with Major and Colonel Roberts expected. Mediapolis lies on the B C R N fifteen miles north of Burlington. Ticket buyers should obtain a certificate for reduced return rates. 5S E Parker regimental Secretary.
Saturday evening an attempted break in at Geo Boileau’s residence on East South Street was thwarted when the intruders, finding the screen door cut and unlocked, fled after the owner left for a town concert with the door usually left open during short absences. The incident ended without entry or injury.
Advertisement notes half price on fancy ribbons and laces and mentions veiling products from A. E. Berry located at West Side Square.
Forecast for Iowa fair tonight and Tuesday with a rise in temperature. Reports of deaths include Mrs Mary Wells of Monmouth Illinois from heart trouble and Benjamin W Leyda of Muscatine. An osteopathy treatment at Dr John Hayes’s home rapidly relieved a sprained ankle.

Wells & McCulley ship cattle to Chicago and hogs to eastern market via Narrow Gauge line.
The first of the evening Union services was held at the Methodist church with Rev H R Stark of the Presbyterian church delivering an excellent sermon and Miss Mable Dewey singing. The church was crowded and street work on the Washington Main sewer continues with a large hole from a cave-in being filled and care taken for continuing clay cave-ins. Prof W S Vance of Parsons College preached at the Presbyterian church and is noted for his appearance, manner, and voice. Local news mentions hot weather deaths in other towns, a move of Rev and Mrs Brown to Monmouth, and a promotion of catarrh cure advertising by Nall's Catarrh Cure with a stated guarantee.
