Wheat benefits to Iowa farmers under federal plan

About 12 000 Iowa wheat farmers should receive cash benefits this fall under the Wheat Adjustment Program of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. Iowa ranks 22nd in wheat production, with an average 7.6 million bushels and 430 000 acres planted in 1928–32. The plan pays benefits based on a farmer’s average three year crop, reduces planted acreage by up to 20 percent, and uses county committees for administration. Benefits total about two thirds this fall and one third next spring, with roughly 30 cents per bushel expected.
