Riverside passengers face new daily schedule with trains 403 404 rerouted via Nichols to Columb Junction from Riverside Muscatine. Outbound departures include 4 15 am from Columbus Junction arriving Riverside 8 35 am and 9 35 am to Riverside. Inbound Riverside 9 50 am returning to Columbus Junction 11 25 am. Other departures at 10 10 am to Iowa City Hills and 9 35 am to the west. Runs daily except Sunday.
A barn burned on the Elmer Kolosiek farm near town as 8. P. Hubbell occupied property seven miles northeast. Neighbors spotted the fire about 10 30 p m and saved the dwelling house from destruction though its roof was ignited by sparks from the barn.
The city will pour material to fill holes on South Iowa Avenue near the square this week after bricks were removed for gas main repairs. Street workers, led by Fred Werner, finished surfacing on West Madison Street extending two blocks and hope to treat more rough spots. Mayor James Burnsea, 65, was knocked unconscious and robbed of 50 dollars when a bandit entered his Atlantic grocery as he unlocked the store for the day. The incident occurred in Atlantic on July 10. Police investigation underway.
