A United Press report outlines Chicago underworld divisions among four gangs as Senate racketeering probes spotlight the city. Old lines like Capone and Touhy clash over spoils from expositions and boom era profits, shifting from big rackets to smaller revenue sources and internal cutoffs.
Samuel Carson, 83, died yesterday evening at seven at his granddaughter’s home 208 East Jefferson street where he had been cared for the last three months. Funeral services will be held at two o clock in Little York United Presbyterian church. interment at Little York. He was born May 8, 1850 in Randallstown Ireland and came to Illinois in 1872 settling in Warren county near Monmouth. He married Nancy Hamilton in 1874. two children survive. He later married Mary A. Blair in 1885. one child died in infancy. He leaves three granddaughters and four grandsons.
In Des Moines delegates vote to ratify the repeal amendment, an action that makes Iowa the eleventh state to approve. Governor Herring and Sen Frailey led the session amid cheers while Mrs Ida Wise Smith referenced received prohibition leadership. The resolution moves to Secretary of State Miller for Washington certification.

She and her husband work in a mission school aiming to train competent Christian citizens among Whites Indians and Esquimaux. Alaska’s population of 59000 sits in vast virgin territory with unimagined resources and fishing now surpassing mining. Sitka’s climate, tempered by the Japanese gulf stream, brings heavy rainfall and snowfall similar to Minneapolis.
Secretary Leigh Soule of the Washington Y M C A announced that a few more local boys can join the annual camp on the Wapsie river near Central City starting July 17. Registration closes tomorrow. six Washington youths are ready to go and Charles Corey, Willard Spencer, Everett Burham, William Burhan, Clifford Bleeha, and Clarence Edwin Griffith may accompany them as adult teacher. Cedar Rapids M C A leads the camp, with additional boys from that city.
The Titanic struck an iceberg about 500 miles south of Newfoundland on Sunday April 14 at 10:45 p m New York time and sank two hours forty minutes later bringing a maritime disaster to global attention.

Des Moines July 11 The first USDA estimate puts Iowa corn at 413,250,000 bushels, about 96,257,060 bushels below last year but nearly normal due to heat and dry June. Oats yield is 19 bushels per acre, 43 percent of normal, while winter wheat and other grains also fall short.
Three wealthy men were seized for ransom in a wave of kidnapings. John J. O Connell Jr of Albany, son of a New York political boss, was abducted demanding 250000 with threats to kill if police are notified. Other captives include August Luer of Alton Illinois as no word arrived from kidnappers.
Washington firemen responded to a small roof fire at Mrs A J Booth 417 Baet Third Street. Water application before arrival left little damage. the blaze started from a chimney after a stove was lit to heat water for washing.

Washington July 11 The Farm Credit Administration extended the Morganthau plan to Illinois to liquidate frozen farm mortgages. The $25 million program will buy farm paper from 376 banks outside Chicago, with farmers receiving new mortgages. Initial work includes appraisals and title checks, with three to six months before substantial advances. Similar steps are considered for Minnesota Michigan Indiana Georgia North and South Carolina and Texas.
