Week in Washington and hometown notes from Aunt Agatha
Dear Aunt Agatha recalls a sweltering Fourth of July, a heat wave breaking with thunderstorms, and a quieter town. Crawfordsville hosted a lively Republican Women event with speeches and a baby doll parade while Hy-Vee opened a larger store. Local retirements, youth center redecorations, a new wing for the Presbyterian Home, and community figures like Harry Ramseyer and Jim McQuaid are noted alongside park activities and summer concerts.

Grain and soybean markets swing on speculation, with bid ranges cited for corn and soybeans. A USDA crop report due next Monday stirs varied forecasts, and the author, Thaddeus, expects above average prospects for soybeans and feed grains.
