Three 17 year olds were charged with breaking and entering and turned over to the juvenile officer. The arrests clear up break-ins at the county fairgrounds and local taverns during the past three weeks. Beer and cigarettes were stolen and one youth is charged with last week’s car theft.
Reports from Sheriff Don Robertson Police Chief Jack Cherry and area highway patrol indicate no incidents or calls related to the new adult rights granted to Iowa 19-year-olds as of Saturday July 1.
ASCS payments to local farmers under the 1972 feed-grain program are due today. Most checks are delayed in the New Orleans processing center because area acreages lack certification due to wet weather and late plantings.payments will be released as certificates arrive. today is the deadline.

Washington High School jazz band returns from the International Jazz Festival in Montreux Switzerland with top honors for best trombone section in the high school division. Mike Tschantz named outstanding lead trumpeter. New Trier West Illinois won best overall high school band with York Pennsylvania second and Orrville Ohio third.
