Missouri Man Arrested for Murder in Iowa
A Missouri man sought since 1927 for the slaying of deputy Clint McConnell near Leon Iowa has been captured in Albany Missouri. Herb Pollard is indicted on first degree murder. a companion Sam Petty of Lineville Mo died before capture. McConnell attempted to handcuff Pollard on a farm eight miles northwest of Leon after delivering $75 worth of alcohol.

Washington county selective service board received from R A Lancaster assistant director of the Iowa state draft board a notice about deferment for men who have reached 28. The bill to authorize deferment passed the senate and would be considered by the house on July 1. If enacted, it would be retroactive to July 1 and would defer any registrant aged 28 or over on July 1 who had not been inducted. The bill does not defer men turning 28 after July 1 unless on July 1, 1942 he remains uninducted.
