Two year old George Brown son of Mr and Mrs Harold Brown died moments after darting into a car driven by L L Hagie Osceola superintendent of schools. The mother witnessed the accident as Brown’s family rode to the west side of Burlington where he was employed. Hagie recalled the car was moving about 16 or 15 miles per hour when the collision happened.

Derailment Halts Milwaukee Freight South of Sigourney
Thirteen northbound Milwaukee freight cars derailed three miles south of Sigourney. A blaze erupted in the wreckage burning crude oil gasoline coke and crated window glass.
