City council stalls bicycle rule as sidewalk work advances
Last night in Freeport the city council met with Mayor McCollum presiding. A sidewalk resolution for East Washington was approved and the bicycle ordinance was referred back for changes. City finances showed various fund balances as agents discussed wages, sewer permits, and street work. A child was saved from a train wreck near Red Oak by locomotive fireman James Wheeland, a daughter of Freeport. Excursion plans to Burlington and the Fourth of July events were announced along with routines of local travel, church concerts, and community notices.

Washington Iowa City Council approves sidewalk on East South Street
The City Council of Washington Iowa establishes a four foot wide plank sidewalk on the north side of East South Street between East Third and East Fourth streets. Construction must start within five days of publication and be completed in fifteen days or the Street Commissioner will build it and assess costs to fronting properties.
