Robert Krotz, Des Moines Register journalist and son of Mrs. John Krotz of Washington, receives a $250 first prize for investigative reporting from the National Council for the Advancement of Education Writing for a nine part series exposing closed-door school board meetings in Des Moines. At 27, Krotz has five years with the Register and previously earned an American Political Science Association Award for public affairs reporting. He is married to Pam Robison of Washington with two young daughters.
