Red Oak Farmer Dies After Car Finding
Red Oak farmer Rudolph Nelson, 37, died in a Red Oak hospital from a hemorrhage caused by a blow to the head of unknown origin. A coroner's jury ruled the death a result of the blow after probing inquest Friday led by Coroner Ray Stephen, Willisen, and State Agent Bob Gregson. Nelson was found unconscious in his car Wednesday morning in front of Hilltop place at the edge of Red Oak. He died Wednesday afternoon without regaining consciousness.

Three teens admit knowledge of Edna Pruett death
COUNCIL BLUFFS three teen companions of 17 year old Edna Maxine Pruett admitted they knew of her death hours before reporting it. County attorney Don Jackson said they later said the death occurred around 3:30 to 4 a.m. and that they had consumed two pints of wine in addition to whisky previously claimed.

Naval aviator Vaughn killed in crash near Delta Iowa
Lieut. Christoph er C Vaughan 37, a naval aviator at the U S naval air station, was killed when his dive bomber crashed in swampy terrain along the Skunk River near Delta during a routine flight. His home is Camden South Carolina. Vaughan reported at the station last July 18.

Ottumwa Officials Arrested in Gambling Conspiracy
Ottumwa commissioner of public safety G E Rhoads, 63, and former Hotel Ottumwa clerk Herbert Bagg, 44, were arrested on conspiracy charges tied to gambling and liquor payoffs. WaPello County Attorney John D Moon said the informations specify the scheme. Rhoads posted a 2500 dollar bond and gained a plea deadline of February 2, while Bagg, unable to post bond, was jailed and waived to the grand jury.

Iowa City January 29 Largest second semester enrollment in the history of the University of Iowa school of nursing with 353 students reflects women’s response to the profession. For the first time in fourteen years enrollment exceeds 300 as 264 enrolled two years ago and 274 in the first semester of 1948 44. Many enrollees are members of the United States Cadet nurse corps trained at government expense with a six month commitment after the war. The largest twelve month total is 402 from June 1929 to June 1930.
