Trucker violence flares in Ohio and surrounding states
Violence erupted as independent drivers attempted to halt trucking to protest fuel costs and highway speed limits. In Ohio, hundreds of trucks were pulled from highways, nails scattered on interstates, and several trucks shot at in Youngstown Rootstown Akron Summit County and on the Turnpike. Two drivers were arrested for disorderly conduct. Washington urged relief and fuel price relief discussions proceeded with key officials. West Virginia and parts of Pennsylvania also reported incidents as authorities stepped up patrols. A driver from Salem Oregon was wounded when a bullet struck his truck grille during an exchange on a city street.

Move to Dismiss Suit Against Burlington Judge
A motion to dismiss a $900,000 suit against Judge William S. Cahill of Burlington Henry County and the State Social Services Department was taken under advisement after oral arguments. Lloyd C. Bowen, whose marriage was dissolved by Cahill, seeks $300,000 from Cahill and $300,000 from each agency, claiming the dissolution ruined his career and public image. Bowen also appeals to the Iowa Supreme Court for custody of his children and the ICLU may intervene on sex discrimination grounds.
