Wyman farm home damaged by fire
Lightning blamed for a fire that damaged the Irving Lenz farm home near Wyman. The fire started in the front room after a loud bolt entered via a television antenna. Crawfordsville Ainsworth and Winfield fire crews arrived to find the blaze extinguished, with damage confined to the front room. Mr Lenz drove into town to alert firemen due to a telephone outage. The Lenzes had been awakened by thunder and the odor of smoke during a brief electrical storm.

One Car Accident On Highway 218 In Iowa
Mrs. af ary maxine Merfeld of Ft Madison was involved in a one car crash on Highway 218 while avoiding cattle hidden by a hill. She rode a speed roughly 45 mph, suffered rib injuries, and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Iowa City where she works as a nurse. Auto damage is estimated at 200 dollars. no charges filed.
