Des Moines reports total enrollment in Iowa public schools for 1934 at 547 574 with 1 935 in junior colleges and 20 565 in adult education. Elementary grades show more boys than girls, while high schools have more girls. overall 278 390 boys and 269 194 girls were enrolled.
Bids will be received at the state highway commission office until January 28 for mower parts to be used in highway maintenance. Purchased items include 7 300 guards 3 300 guard plates 40 000 sections 1 200 guard bolts 1 200 guard and elip bolts and 125 sickles complete.
Mrs. Frederick Rawson, wife of a Standard Oil official, killed herself with a revolver in Rio de Janeiro. Ill health cited as the cause. The 29 year old was the former Virginia Stine of Superior Nebraska. Her husband is from Burlington Iowa.
Ted Gardner of Waterloo was arrested Tuesday night in New Hampton Iowa by federal agents who said they found 23 gallons of alcohol in his car. He was jailed in Black Hawk county jail.
Keokuk Illinois reported funeral service for Theodore J Phil lips age 95 longtime organ builder and the oldest merchant of Keokuk who died at his home Monday. He once spent five weeks in Canada building a bedstead later given to the Prince of Wales. Survived by a daughter in Keokuk and a brother in California.
Two masked bandits bound William Lundstrom at a service station in Boone and robbed him of $11 in change a pistol and the station heater after forcing him into a washroom. The incident occurred early Tuesday, leaving the attendant cold and shaken.
