Officers hunted southeastern Towa for Robert Shoemate of Licking Missouri who fled Annanoese county jail after apparently getting outside aid. He was among four held in the Nov. 10 torture robbery of Martha DeTar a 74 year old recluse northeast of Albia.
Ray Spracklin of Persia Iowa died from injuries after a tree he was chopping fell on him in a Council Bluffs hospital. The incident occurred while he was working at the scene and led to his death.
Johnson County officials have their salaries raised by 18 percent to restore an equal reduction implemented last year by the county board of supervisors.
Davenport Scott county supervisors and city councilmen discussed buying the Union Bank building at Third and Brady for a combined court house and city hall. All city offices except the police department would move into the bank per the plan.

M C DeLong testified about a ladder sold to Norton during his time at a local lumber yard and Mrs Blanche Dorsey testified she saw Norton remove large loads of corn from the county home. Supervisors said Norton had no county authorization. The coin theft accusation dominated the first day of state evidence.

E L Stewart of Washington county is assigned to eight committees including public health and education. Senator Dewey from the Washington Henry district sits on board of control and other panels. Governor Herring calls beer law revision with recommendations from four groups urging stricter enforcement or full rewrite. The joint committee, led by Sen. Geske, is to draft changes, with proposals for higher permit fees and city authority to enforce and regulate beer parlors.

The Spanish American War Veterans camp of Span ish American War Veterans today elected officers for the new year after a dinner at the Congress hotel. John Jones of Haskins was chosen commander with E B Harmer as vice commander and Milan Shields as adjutant.
Three bandits assaulted Sol Roseman, a New York jewelry salesman, at the Martin hotel entry and escaped with $125,000 in diamonds after a struggle with police. A cop pursued in a squad car but the criminals fired at the radiator and fled.
Five masked men seized the US mail truck driver in Fall River Massachusetts and escaped with 129000 dollars in currency. Part of the loot was sent to a trust company from the federal reserve bank to meet mill payrolls. Both cars were later located, suggesting another escape vehicle.

Funeral services were held for Dr. W C Williamson at the First United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth Illinois. The 93 year old Civil War veteran and longtime Washington minister died peacefully at his daughter's home after a lengthy ministry. Born 1842 near Xenia Ohio he served in the Union Army and graduated from Jefferson College before preaching across Illinois and Ohio. The Monmouth Review Atlas notes his long career and strong community memory.
House leaders abandoned plans to pass Roosevelt four point eight billion work relief today amid expected floor amendments. Debates to start, with no immediate passage, while Roosevelt aims to employ 3,500,000 at about 500 dollars monthly. Senate leaders push for a World Court vote by Friday evening.
