Washington Jaycees award recipients named at annual banquet

The 19th annual Washington Jaycees Awards Banquet honored Rev. Tom Pace with the Distinguished Service Award and Ralph Graber with the Senatorship Award for longtime club service. Denny Coon Peter Getz Bill Riggan and E K Schlapkohl received top honors, with Mark Pogrebin as featured speaker urging reforms to youth crime and juvenile justice.

Lows range from 5 in the north to the lower 20s in the southeast, and Friday brings mostly cloudy skies with a slight snow chance and highs from 20 in the northeast to the upper 30s in the southwest.

A jammed high school auditorium braved an ice storm to welcome Robert DeCormier Folks Singers. The fourteen young vocalists, with dance and light effects, delivered a theatrical concert with Negro music highlights and a contemporary religious music finale. Turner seeks rehearing over Iowa redistricting ruling
