Des Moines Man arraigned in murder case after hotel stabbing
A 47-year-old Des Moines man was arraigned on an open murder charge after James Arthur Peak, 36, was stabbed in the Harlan Hotel lobby around 12:30 a.m. Peak died later at Broadlawns Polk County Hospital. Both men lived at the hotel and Wilbert Dorsey was arrested shortly after the incident.

Exploratory drilling planned for Coldwater Cave Iowa entrance
Gov. Ray said a state crew led by Geologist Dr. Sam Tuthill will drill one inch and five inch holes on the Kenneth Flatland property near Cresco to locate a public entrance. A larger hole and remote TV camera will assess suitability while protecting the cavern's environmental and aesthetic qualities.
