Bridge hands and defense timing in six diamonds play
In a six diamonds contract with South opening, West leads queen of spades. After ducks and ruffs, three escape plans exist to handle the heart loser. Plan 1 risks luck. Plans 2 and 3 rely on a 3-2 trump split. By testing trumps, then using a dummy reversal if needed, the defense can reveal the trump division and discard the heart loser on dummy’s trumps, yielding twelve tricks: two hearts, four clubs, six trumps.
