Airplane Crash Kills Five Near Washington
A DC-3 operated by Eastern Airlines crashed in a wooded area near Ft. Poet Maryland during a rain storm killing five of eleven aboard and injuring four. The plane was en route from Houston to Boston with its last stop in Winston-Salem and had reported no trouble before the 4:35 A.M. radio transmission.

Funeral of John McKee Held Today in Spencer Iowa
Funeral services were held today in Spencer Iowa for John McKee aged 88 a Crawfordsville native and former long time publisher of the Spencer Reporter from 1895 to 1905. Survived by his wife he had retired due to age and was buried in Spencer cemetery after dying Saturday in Spencer. He earlier taught school and served as superintendent in Nebraska Linked to Mrs L Griffith of Washington and Mrs Rebecca Chrissinger of Mt Pleasant.

GOP Senators Push Deep Cut in Marshall Plan Aid
A bloc of about two dozen Republican senators met in secret to oppose the 76.8 billion dollar Marshall plan initial down payment and pressed for a cut likely between 4 and 5 billion dollars citing a heavy drain on the U S economy.
