George M. Johnson of Oskaloosa, a senior mechanical engineering student, has been named general manager of the 1941 Military Circus at Iowa State College. The event, sponsored by the Cadet Officers Association, will be held March 7 amid college activities.
Col Vladi mir Hurban United States minister of the Czecho Slovak government and Dean Chester A Phillips of the University of Iowa will address the Iowa Investment Bankers association convention in Cedar Rapids on January 24.
DES MOINES The Iowa Association of Commercial Organization Secretaries announced a legislative conference. Chamber of Commerce secretaries will meet with legislative chairmen to hear discussions of possible legislation during the state legislature sessions.
Charles Sharp, 72, a three time pancake champ, retained his title by eating 93 pancakes four inches in diameter and drinking 38 cups of coffee over a two day contest in Humboldt.
Robert C. Simmons, 23, walked into a Mason City police station to clear his brother George in a bad check case. Officers say Simmons signed a confession admitting burglaries at 14 local businesses before finishing his interview with Police Chief H. Wolfe, and he waived preliminary hearing on breaking and entering charges.
Eldora lawyer John F. Wirds filed a district court petition asking Iowa Falls Chamber of Commerce be enjoined from mingling school athletic funds. He alleges a plan funds a public dance and basketball game with net proceeds to the Chamber.
Mrs. Harry Loring of Brighton dies at 1 15 PM from pneumonia at Fair field hospital after a short illness. Born January 20 1878 near Perlee Iowa she married Harry Loring June 24 1908 and lived in Des Moines before moving to Brighton six years ago. Survived by her husband two sisters and three brothers. Funeral at Hoskins funeral home tomorrow at 2 30 PM with burial in Fair field cemetery.
Eight men injured including five policemen as officers used tear gas against CIO pickets at the Eaton Rich division plant in Saginaw Michigan. Seven CIO members were arrested as 250 pickets faced 50 police in a two hour stand. Strike plan targets 5,000 workers across Eaton plants nationwide.

Mrs. Anna Meyer of Ottumwa, 34, escaped death when her car crashed on primary road 92 near Cuddeback corner and burst into flames. Rescued just before the gasoline tank exploded, she suffered a severe pelvic fracture and other injuries. The Hedrick car owner David Messersmith and bystander Lester Utterback aided in the rescue. the vehicle was a total loss.
The Washington State theatre and Fox theatre cut weekday matinee start times from 2:30 to 2:00 p.m., effective Monday January 20, to aid farm and out of town patrons. Doors open 1:45. Sunday performances stay at 2:30 at State and 4:30 at Fox.

Eugene Blick aged 17, a native of the Ainsworth community and son of Mr and Mrs Edgar Blick of Urichsville Ohio, was killed in a car train collision near Washington. Five youths returning from a Future Farmers of America meeting perished at the grade crossing.

Mrs. Helen Tracy Lewis Baird aged 65 died suddenly at 6:30 PM near Washington. Born June 25, 1875 she married James H. Baird May 5, 1904. Funeral services were at the Presbyterian church with burial in Elm Grove cemetery. She was active in church and veterans service and left a husband two children and three grandchildren.
