Advertising Costs in 1948 and Board Proceedings Reported
Advertising in the United States in 1948 totaled about 5 million dollars, equating to 1.8 percent of gross national income. The piece notes cigarette ad costs per pack under a half-cent and canned soup under a quarter-cent per can, with bread ad cost below the wrapper price. It cites the Advertising News Letter praising advertising, while the Federal Trade Commission flags under 1 percent as fraudulent. Following this, the County Board of Supervisors meeting on December 29, 1949, approved various claims and expenditures across departments including maintenance, health, hospital, and county offices with itemized payments to numerous vendors and individuals.
