Twenty four farmers attended the agriculture meeting on crop varieties held at the high school Wednesday evening. Forage oats and soybean varieties Adams soybeans and Shelby oats were discussed, with Adams soybeans now marketed in the county and Shelby oats offered for seed. Leonard Tindal reported, and the next meeting is set for January 18 with an Ames extension engineer on tractor maintenance.

Mental Patient Says She Started Fire Which Killed 41 At Davenport Hospital
A Davenport hospital tragedy is tied to a mental patient who allegedly started the blaze that killed 41. Police report a 27 year old man Felix Lamas or Samas killed his wife Katherine 24 and their two children Felix 4 and Phyllis 1 months then killed another couple Richard Norman 26 and Shirley 18 before taking his own life. Police reconstruct the sequence saying the suspect killed the children and Normans first then his wife upon her return. Firefighters contained the fire within 45 minutes after an alarm.
