Iowa Egg Production Tops Four Billion in 1945
Des Moines Iowa January 12 eggs production in Iowa for 1945 totaled 4 326 000 000 eggs. The Iowa crop and livestock reporting service noted last month set a new monthly record of 270 000 000 eggs, up from 245 000 000 a year earlier and 230 000 000 in 1945. Flock sizes are slightly below last year but pullets on farms are at an all time high and high production is expected to continue. Monthly production has set new highs every month since June.

Des Moines reports 110 496 Iowa job placements in 1945 down from 162 486 in 1944. Welfare program notes that 69 189 industrial placements occurred, 30 355 women gained manufacturing work, and 93 percent of registered veterans secured jobs. Desert robbery leaves Max Birka near Florence
Max C Birka 23, once of Washington now in Phoenix as used car salesman, was beaten and robbed of $8000 cash and jewelry near Florence Arizona. A friend wrote a Phoenix paper, naming the assailant as Kenny, a known man Birka had sought to avoid. Birka was dumped in the desert and later hospitalized with head and facial injuries. The robbery occurred Tuesday night as Birka, in a borrowed car, rode with the suspect before being attacked and left in the desert about 11 miles from Florence. A search is under way to identify and capture the robber and his companion. a description was given to police.
